CULTURAL TOURS
IN JAPAN
"TO TRAVEL IS TO TAKE A JOURNEY INTO YOURSELF."
Danny Kaye
Japanese culture & traditions are exceptionally unique.
There is no where else on earth quite like Japan, where time-honored customs and traditions flourish alongside seemingly incongruous ultra modern influences.
One of the main draws for travelers is Japan's fascinating and multi-layered cultured where ancient and modern coexist in surprising harmony. A quick trip outside the major cities to an area like our home, Otari village in northern Nagano, can feel like a journey back in time. An incredible variety of festivals and events that have remained unchanged for hundreds if not thousands of years occur year round and all across the country, but are especially worthwhile to visit in rural areas, where tourists are non-existent and true Japanese hospitality is one full display. There is no better way to immerse yourself into a true cultural experience.
We are based in the perfect location to be able to to just that. Our small village of less than 3,000 people spread out across the foothills of the Northern Alps has dutifully preserved numerous festivals and traditions, some of which are unique to this area. Join us for one of the many festivals to glimpse a side of Japan that is hard to find in the larger cities, or participate in a workshop held by elder residents who are keen to pass on their knowledge and skills to the next generation so that the chain remains unbroken.
We are local residents first, and guides second. This is our home, and these are genuine non-touristy opportunities to interact and mix with locals in a setting that is as authentic as it gets. Below is a list of the upcoming festival tours and workshops we have scheduled. Be sure to check back occasionally, as we will be putting a number of new tours online in the coming month. Finally, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask; we are here to help you got the most out of your trip to Japan (and we know that successful trips start long before the day of departure.)
